The Ministry of Planning held a workshop to discuss a draft regional report on achieving sustainable development goals in conflict-affected countries in the Arab region, within the program (Wednesday seminar) directed by Minister Dr. Khaled B. Al-Najm to advance the reality of research work in Iraq. The workshop also dealt with a research paper that combines Iraq’s vision for sustainable development, voluntary reports submitted to the international forum, and the document on recovery and response to the pandemic. Prepared by the two researchers, Eng. Zuhair Abbas from the Department of Regional and Local Development, and the expert, Mrs. Ban Ali Abboud, The workshop also dealt with a research paper that combines Iraq’s vision for sustainable development, voluntary reports submitted to the international forum, and the document on recovery and response to the pandemic. Human security with its elements in Iraq, prepared by researcher Dr. Amjad H. Jalob, from the Department of Human Development and in coordination with the head of the expert team in the ministry, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan, the rapporteur of the workshop, which was moderated by the expert Dr. Wafa J. Al-Mahdawi.
The workshop also recommended the necessity of reviewing the data contained in the report from all departments of the ministry and experts. The importance of Iraq’s continued participation in international forums and the activation of partnerships at its various levels to achieve sustainable development goals, while working to localize sustainable development goals according to our privacy and focus on priorities in implementation in relation to financing development as well as, perseverance development.
The workshop also dealt with the concept of “human security”, which is defined as the security that stems from the individual, and it focuses more on the economic, social and political needs of the individual, and emphasizes that the human being is safe from economic deprivation and enjoying an acceptable quality of life, and ensuring the performance of basic human rights, as it emerges The importance of achieving human security at all levels; It includes reforming the internal institutions necessary to guarantee personal and political security, guarantee the independence of the individual, the right to access education, adequate health care, provide decent housing, guarantee freedom of expression, protect the individual from violence and abuse, and equal employment opportunities in a way that enhances the individual’s sense of belonging and thus advances the society economically and politically. The workshop was attended by the Director-General of the Department of Regional and Local Development, Dr. Muhammad Mohsen Al-Sayed, the Director-General of the Department of Human Development, Dr. Maha Abdul Karim, a number of heads of departments and people, and a number of the Ministry’s employees.
